NOVEMBER 1938 OCTOBER 2021 REMEMBERING Laurel May Evans Life Story The Family of the late Laurel Evans would like to thank everyone who is here with us today to share in her thanksgiving service and all persons who took the time to offer condolences through various medium It has been comforting to us during this difficult time and it also reminds us of the impact she had on so many Submitted by The Family In the Province of Oriente Cuba in the year 1938 the 15th day of 11th month Archibald and Sylvia Johnson welcomed their first child Laurel May Johnson The family migrated to Jamaica when Laurel was 5 years old and took up residency in the district of Portland Cottage in Clarendon Being the first of 6 siblings Auntie Laurel took the role of a big sister seriously She loved each of them in a special and different way and all believed they were her favourite Auntie Laurel was educated at the Portland Cottage All Age School where her natural sewing skills were realized She later mastered the art when she migrated to Kingston as a teenager Her on the job training at the Kingston Free Zone in the Apparel Industry earned her various positions the ultimate being Assistant Manager Auntie Laurel received numerous awards and commendations for her astute diligence as her team s production was always of the highest quality My Aunt s determination to succeed was unmatched especially when she became a mother to her only child Junior He was the pride and joy of her life and she doted on him This also was transferred to all her nieces and nephews It was her delight to introduce us to all her friends along with telling them which of her sibling was our parent Her love for her granddaughter Venessa was unparalleled They were inseparable We all will agree that Joan was her favourite niece She was Auntie Laurel s source of strength and pride she was always there at her beck and call and during her hospital stay each nurse would ask every female visitor if their name is Joan as Joan was all she spoke about The family pays tribute to Joan for being there when most of us could not My aunt was a happy amiable person and you just could not help but liking her She illuminated a room with her presence she was the life of the party Perhaps this is what attracted her to Olva Evans who became her husband on June 22 1974 a marriage lasting 40 years ending November 2014 at the time of Mr Evans death LAUREL MAY EVANS

She had a special love for Nigel one of Mr Evans grandsons whom she adopted Again she demonstrated her care and love for him in her usual unique way At the nucleus of her life was her faith in the LORD JESUS CHRIST with her Christian foundation as a child being a member of the St Johns Anglican Church in Portland Our lives go on without you Cottage Upon migrating to the But nothing is the same United States in the 80 s she We have to hide our heartaches maintained her faith and later When someone speaks your name became a member of this church Sad are the hearts that love you Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Silent the tears that fall under the Pastorship of Rev Edward L Jenkins Snr Living our hearts without you Is the hardest part of all You did so many things for us Approximately 10 years ago she Your heart was kind and true experienced various health And when we needed someone challenges She made her transition We could always count on you on October 16 2021 The special years will not return A mother grandmother a sister an When we were all together aunt a friend is no longer with us in the flesh but her spirit will live on in But with the love within our hearts the lives of her son Junior You will walk with us forever granddaughter Venessa adopted son Nigel her siblings Octavius Pancho Orpah and Carie her nieces nephews grand nieces grand nephews and a host of other relatives her church family and her friends Like the writer Paul in the 2nd Epistle of Timothy 4 vs 7 8 Auntie Laurel is now echoing these words I have fought the good fight I have finished the race I have kept the faith Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge will award to me on that Day and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing LAUREL MAY EVANS 1938 2021
